The Shelter is a new large-scale linocut exploring dense networks of branches, roots and organic structures. The image emerges through a slow, manual carving process in which layers of intertwined botanical forms gradually build a complex environment of lines, shadows and open spaces.
At the centre of the composition a quiet clearing appears — a fragile field of light surrounded by dense vegetation. This subtle space acts as a moment of pause within the chaotic network, suggesting the idea of shelter: not as a physical structure, but as a place of presence and temporary grounding within living systems.
Created through months of intensive hand carving, the work reflects Aga Kubish’s ongoing interest in natural networks and the idea of Human Rooting — the search for connection, stability and belonging within complex environments.
The Shelter continues the artist’s exploration of large-scale printmaking, where time, repetition and detailed mark-making allow images to slowly emerge from the surface of the block.
This edition will consist of 30 hand-printed impressions.
