Aga Kubish ARE

Born in Poland and currently based in Wales, UK, Aga Kubish is a fine artist and printmaker working across drawing, printmaking, photography and artist’s books. Her practice explores what she describes as Human Rooting - an embodied methodology of establishing presence within complex, interconnected systems.

At the centre of her work are monumental linocuts, printed entirely by hand without a press. Through dense networks of lines, organic structures and repetitive manual processes, Kubish develops large-scale works that investigate presence, participation and the emergence of form within layered environments.

About

Using improvised physical methods of pressure, Kubish approaches printmaking as an extension of drawing — a durational and embodied process in which gesture becomes embedded directly within the structure of the image. Printed entirely by hand without a press, her monumental linocuts retain traces of time, repetition and physical engagement, emphasising material presence as much as visual form.

Her work explores organic and relational systems: root structures, botanical networks, architectural frameworks and layered environments that operate as spatial fields rather than static representations. Rather than resolving complexity, Kubish inhabits it, allowing structure to emerge gradually through dense and repetitive mark-making. Within these intricate systems, a distinctly human trajectory becomes visible — not as control, but as presence.

Since discovering printmaking in 2021, the medium has become central to her practice. Kubish is an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Printmakers (elected 2022), and her large-scale linocut Green House was acquired for the RE Diploma Collection. In 2026, she became a member of the Bath Society of Artists.

In 2025, she founded and directed ART GALLERY & STUDIO in Weston-super-Mare, curating group and solo exhibitions while developing collaborative relationships between artists and audiences. Following the closure of the space and her relocation to Wales, Kubish established a new Aga Kubish ART STUDIO in Pontypool - a dedicated environment for the development of her large-scale printmaking, installation and participatory projects.

Her practice draws from the visual language of historical engraving and print traditions, including hatching and dotwork, alongside an ongoing interest in artist’s books, traditional bookbinding and plant-based photographic processes. Working predominantly in black ink and at large scale, Kubish embraces slow and labour-intensive methods that foreground duration, structure and embodied experience.

While informed by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Katsushika Hokusai and Alphonse Mucha, her work develops a distinctly contemporary visual language rooted in systems, perception and participation.

Since 2025, Kubish has been an Ambassador for St Cuthbert’s Mill. She is currently completing an MA in Fine Art (Printmaking) at the University of the West of England, Bristol.
