Where Holding Begins explores the moment of first contact — the point where separation ends and a relationship starts to form.
The image grows out of the idea of roots meeting for the first time: tentative, searching, not yet fully intertwined, but already aware of each other’s presence. It is a quiet moment, before pressure, before weight — when connection is still fragile and open.
Working in black and white allows the structure to remain honest and exposed. Without colour, the focus shifts to line, texture and tension — to what holds, what supports, and what begins to grow beneath the surface.
This etching is part of an ongoing exploration of roots as a relational system: between nature and body, memory and place, stability and movement.
Each print is hand-pulled, embracing subtle variations that reflect the organic nature of the process.
